Two 2001 Born Prospects Worth Keeping an Eye on

Posted at 2017-07-19 by Marco Bombino

The 2001 born age-group is looking like a very promising group of prospects for Finland. There are some high-end players, especially at forward, that we have covered on the site with scouting reports. Here I will feature two prospects who I was impressed with last season and who you should put on your watch list.

Veeti Miettinen stood out with Blues U18 last season as an excellent skater who knows how to score goals. His first-step quickness, agility and backwards skating are all above-average. The forward has an accurate, quick wrist shot which gets off of his stick in a hurry. Great scoring touch, smart around the net, scored 26 goals. Small but competitive, he can forecheck and backcheck with authority and thus cause trouble. Pretty good hands, can make some plays in traffic. Having a late birthday Miettinen will be eligible for the 2020 NHL Draft.

Mico Luoto is a skilled defenseman with a lot of offensive potential. Playing for Jokerit U16, he showed impressively quick hands and the ability to skate with the puck out of the zone. Can put some real power and accuracy behind his shot from the point. An agile skater with very good mobility. Luoto plays a very calm game with the puck and has good vision. On the downside, he can be prone to making turnovers in the defensive end. That being said, his game got better going towards the end of the season. A high-upside player with skill and athleticism.
