  • 2019-01-02 at Finland - Canada, WJC by Asko Huuki

After an impressive group stage, the captain of Team Finland was promoted to first line to play with Rasmus Kupari and Aleksi Heponiemi. He also played in both special teams eventually recording over 24 minutes of ice time, the most from Finnish forwards.

For better or worse, Talvitie was very visible in overtime. At first, he made the bad decision in the offensive zone blue line, lost the puck and that caused a breakaway and eventually a penalty shot for Canada. But later on, he gave the primary assist for the game-winning goal after carrying the puck to the offensive zone.

The forward has been great in this tournament and he has been the most consistent Finnish forward. This game was no different. He is a tireless worker and he makes things done with his excellent work ethic and great mobility. He is not awfully big, but he went constantly to the net and did good job steering the pucks. He also made many close-range shots, but he wasn’t able to score at this time.

Talvitie is not the craftiest player, he relies on fairly simple play and his shot is not huge threat, but he is the kind of player that can be relied on every situations. His two-way game is mature and he gives everything he got on ice. Talvitie is a true team player and he has lead his team by example in this tournament.

  • 2017-04-13 at Slovakia - Finland, World U18 Championship by Asko Huuki

Talvitie had a good game against Slovakia and he scored twice. First goal was made with quick and accurate shot even though his stance wasn’t optimal and on the second goal he directed a pass to the net even under heavy pressure.

Talvitie is the kind of player who is not the most visible player on ice but who is constantly making right solutions. He is smart and gives simple yet effective passes. Forward is also mobile and constantly tries to find open space with his strong skating.

The most impressive part of him is his excellent work ethic. He is defensively responsible and positions well at the own end but he is also willing to show grit and play physical game. Talvitie is a true team player and that’s why it is not surprising to see him being a captain of the team.
