Nevasaari played 15:28 on the TPS U20 away game against HPK. His team lost 0-2, while Nevasaari was held pointless with four shots on goal, including some powerplay time.

The undrafted winger didn’t really impress this time. After scoring 18 goals in 46 games with Kärpät U20 last year and representing Finland U18 in 19 games (including seven at the gold-winning U18 World Championships), this season in Turku seems like a small setback for him. 12 goals and 22 points in 33 games is ok but likely nothing very special for a scorer. Against HPK his skating seemed to lack both quick first steps and top speed. He was skipped in the 2018 Entry Draft, and based on this game it is somehow obvious his skating is far from getting serious NHL interest.

However, he seems to have nose for finding the right place to score, but he also seemed to be outplayed or late a couple of times. Should his skating improve, he could look more dangerous from shift to another and improve on his chances on having a long career in hockey, at least on the Finnish leagues.

  • 2017-11-05 at JYP - Kärpät, U20 by Asko Huuki

Young forward got himself into the scoresheet with a goal and assist in a game against JYP. He picked up an assist after winning the board play at the corner and he made a goal when he shot the puck after some nice dekes. At the moment he has 13 goals in just 24 games.

However, Nevasaari was rather invisible for the most part of the game. His game off the puck needs a lot of work: his checking game was extremely ineffective, he rushed out of position often and at the own end he wasn’t able to do much. Nevasaari showed strong skating couple of times but he would benefit from better skating. He could also use his body a lot more while battling for the puck and his passing game needs a lot of improvement.

Despite the negatives, Nevasaari is good at protecting the puck, he has pretty soft hands and he is undeniably talented at goal-scoring. He has nose for goal-scoring opportunities and above average shot which he likes to use often.
