- 2018-11-30 at KalPa - Ilves, U20 by Juha Koljonen
Korhonen played as a right wing in the 2nd line, and had the second biggest time on ice of all forwards (21:19) when KalPa beat Ilves after a shootout 4-3. Korhonen played in KalPa’s 2nd power play unit and was used a bit also on shorthanded.
Korhonen had scored 11 points in his last eight games, but didn’t get on the scoresheet this time. He scored the game winning goal in the shootout though. A deke and a backhand shot to the top corner were good performances.
The 17-year-old is a offensive-minded forward with decent puck-handling skills. As a reachy player Korhonen is often able to deke and challenge defencemen. His passing skills and hockey IQ are also above-average.
The most glaring weakness in the youngster’s game is his lack of strength, which shows both in the physical battles and in his skating. He needs more explosiveness and quickness for the turns, but all in all there’s lots of raw potential in Korhonen and he should be kept under the loop going forward.
