The mobile, skilled blueliner played a solid game with the puck. In one game, Toikka made a great long pass that was right on the tape. Overall, he had above-average offensive skills and sense for the game. A smooth skater with good lateral movement, he did an excellent job of getting shots through on net from the point. He’s somewhat small but displayed strong skating ability and puck handling skills, qualities that are required for a defenseman of his size. He maintained good gap control and used his instincts to play a sound defensive game.
