  • 2018-12-08 at JYP - Kärpät, U18 by Lassi Alanen

Suni was playing big minutes as a right-winger in Kärpät’s first line. He scored a goal with a very fast wrist shot and helped his team to a well-earned 6-1 win. Suni is an overall smart forward who supports the play well and creates chances for his teammates and himself. His skating looked rather average. Suni’s top speed is decent, but his acceleration is not that great. He has good puck-handling ability and his two-way play was reliable and it did not surprise me that Kärpät used him as a penalty-killer. Suni has a good frame, even though he did not play a physical game.

  • 2018-11-08 at Finland - Canada White, WHC U17 by Lassi Alanen

Suni was held pointless in Finland’s 3-2 win over Canada White in the quarterfinals of the World Hockey Challenge tournament. He was playing in the top line with Roni Hirvonen and Roby Järventie and also received ice time on the power play.

Suni was pretty unnoticeable for the first 40 minutes, but I thought he got a bit more involved in the third period and in the overtime. He has decent speed, good puck skills, solid playmaking ability and a strong wrist shot. That being said, Hirvonen and Järventie were the ones who drove the play in that line and I was left wanting more from Suni, as he could have been way more involved in the play on many occasions. Also, many of his passes in the neutral zone and in his own end were unsuccessful.

  • 2017-10-01 at HIFK - Kärpät, U18 by Marco Bombino

Suni put up one goal and one assist for Kärpät U18 in a 4-3 overtime loss to HIFK. He finished a nice passing play for the goal in the first period. His assist came in the second period after he took a quick sharp angle shot and the rebound was put to the back of the net.

Suni is a skilled forward with good understanding of the game. He showed above-average vision, making crisp and smart passes both in the neutral and offensive zone. His acceleration and mobility have improved since last season, and for a big forward his top speed is fine. He showed the willingness to compete along the boards.

Suni has 16 points in only 10 games this season and looks to be on the track for a high pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
