Seppälä played astonishing 27 minutes against Kärpät which was most of his team. He played in the first pair and he got responsibility in power play as well as in penalty kill.

Seppälä has usually been considered as more defensive-minded defenceman and he has some nice qualities for the own end. He has the size, he battles hard in front of net and he is pretty fluid skater for a player of his size. He also doesn’t make too many risky moves. Defensively he relies maybe too much on his long reach and defending with his stick and he often gave too much space for opponent’s forwards. He did couple of strange decisions while defending and he was out of position couple of times but overall he read the game pretty well.

To me it seems that Seppälä’s offensive skills have improved. He always have had the ability to give crisp and accurate passes, which was seen many times in this game too, but he has clearly learned how to use long frame. His hands aren’t silky smooth but he was able to carry the puck with poise and also protected it well even in the situation when someone tried to check the puck away from him. Seppälä’s defensive talent has always been noticeable but it is interesting to see if he is able to continue improving his offensive skill set.
