Samuel Helenius is the son of former NHL enforcer Sami Helenius. He’s a tall player like his father, but the similarities seem to end there. At 16, Samuel looks like a long shot prospect for a higher level of hockey. Helenius played 11:36 in the fourth line of Jokerit U20 team, assisting on the importand third period goal against HPK in his second U20 game ever.

Samuel is a very tall player, but his skating looks quite smooth for a player with his frame. He seems to pay good attention to his linemates and read plays well to make himself available or battle for the puck. His frame is slim, but he gets involved. His stickhandling doesn’t seem too impressive, but he can still play some puck and make some plays in both ends of the rink. Considering he was one of the youngest in the rink, the overall performance was good, and as a first impression, as a very early career impression, Helenius seems like he could even become a good checking line prospect for NHL.
