Yliniemi was playing as the first line center in Kärpät’s 4-5 overtime win over JYP in the U16 league. Despite being held pointless, he had a good game and was used in every situation by his coaches.

Yliniemi showed excellent puck skills. Despite his small stature he protected the puck very well and was able to maneuver effectively in tight spaces. I was also impressed by the way he slowed the game down and made calculated decisions with the puck. Yliniemi is primarily a playmaker and he flashed good vision. His passing skills were very noticeable on the power play, where he created multiple good chances for his linemates. His skating looked very good for a player his size and age. Yliniemi was also very effective on the penalty kill.
