After being the seventh defenceman on Finland’s Hlinka Gretzky Cup roster, Koskela was playing on JYP’s second defensive pairing in their 1-3 win over Ilves in the U20 league. He got a primary assist off of a simple cross-ice feed on the power play.

Koskela’s biggest strength is his play in transition. He showed notable poise with the puck on the breakout and often made the pass at just the right time. Koskela is a mobile skater, although he isn’t especially explosive and his top speed is just ok. He likes to help the attack at even-strength and can quarterback a power play effectively, relying on his passes. Left-handed defenceman capable of playing both sides, Koskela got beaten few times in the defensive zone and had a particularly bad giveaway early in the game. I thought the positives outweighed the negatives, though.
