Viljami Juusola
- 2019-02-10 at Finland - Sweden, U16 Four Nations by Lassi Alanen
Juusola was playing on Finland’s top pair in a 1-3 loss against Sweden at the U16 Four Nations tournament. He was relied upon heavily in every situation and played on both special teams.
Juusola is a very good skater with solid edgework and mobility. He was able to create zone exits with consistency by making solid opening passes and also by carrying the puck by himself. Juusola made one especially impressive coast-to-coast rush with the puck, in which he showed excellent speed and puck skills. He was positioned on the point on the power-play, but almost all of his shots went clearly over the goal.
Juusola looked quite good defensively, too. He is not very big or physical, but showed a good distance control and defended well with his stick.
- 2019-02-03 at JYP - Kärpät, U16 by Lassi Alanen
Having been playing with the U18 team for big parts of the season, Juusola was back playing with Kärpät’s U16 team as ended JYP’s undefeated streak in a close 4-5 overtime win. Even though we don’t have the numbers, Juusola was very likely playing the most out of any player in the game, as he was used heavily in every situation.
Juusola is a mobile two-way defenceman with very good footwork, especially going backward. He excelled at opening the play from his own zone with crips and precise passes. Juusola supported his forwards by jumping on the rush, but he picked his spots very well and his offensive endeavors didn’t limit his defensive game. Juusola is not big nor did he stand out as physically overpowering, but his ability to stop rushes was excellent and he was almost impossible to beat in 1 on 1 situations due to his footwork, gap control, and body focus.
