The undrafted 18-year old prospect (was eligible in 2018 Entry draft) played his third consecutive game in the men’s league. Petman played 11:08 in Lukko’s third line with veteran Tapio Laakso and 2019 draft prospect Antti Saarela. Petman assisted on Saarela’s first Liiga goal and registered one shot on goal.

Petman’s appearance was overall very impressive right from the beginning. He had a great takeaway in his first shift but missed a breakaway after being tackled out of the puck. He still needs more muscle, but played with no fear towards physical involvement and tight spots, yet didn’t rush out of position or cause trouble to his linemates. His positioning was good and he picked his skating lanes well. Powerful passes and he seemed to see the ice well. Had a few scoring chances thanks to good and active play with his line.

His only clear question mark here was his shooting and stickhandling in the crease. If he had a dangerous shot you could already expect some goals from him on this level, despite young age. Could, however, grow into a good bottom line forward anyway. Has scored 15 points (6+9) in 24 U20 games this season.

Petman had a quiet game offensively against Pelicans despite being the first line center. He has decent basic skills but he doesn’t look like a player who would be constant threat offensively.

However Petman seems to have high work ethic, he makes a lot of work on ice and he is reliable at the own end for a player of his age thanks to his above average positioning. His skating is decent but not excellent but he compensates this area with surprisingly good physical play. He showed some grit, gave couple of heavy hits, went directly to the net and was willing to take bruises if it helps his team.

His passing play seems to require some additional work and he wasn’t able to show his shot this time. Based on what I have seen from him, he is probably not going to be player with the most offensive responsibility in pro game but he might develop into reliable two-way center with more defensive role.

Petman centered the first line for Lukko and played a solid, smart two-way game. He was often a scoring threat because not only can he shoot the puck with power, he also had quick hands and playmaking skill. He was versatile, he played a physical brand of hockey and he won face-offs at a good rate. Petman did a lot of things well both with and without the puck.
